Arwen's Adventures in Midland

  • Jul. 9th, 2009 at 11:53 AM

Back to posting now that I'm on holiday. Am still reeling from the depressing news yesterday that my car is costing $2500 to fix and service as it needs new brake discs and pads, and, get this, new wipers as this particular model of car does not allow you to just replace the blades - wtf??? And because it's a European model, it can only take genuine parts - hello, COST.

Anyway, they had to keep it overnight to order some parts in, so that meant walking to Midland this morning for my hair appt. And, of course, it was POURING. Thanks to the pathetic drainage system in the area, this meant wading through streams and rivers, and some truly slippery mud, coupled with the joy of being splashed by cars too lazy to move over to avoid the mini lakes by the side of the road. Was thoroughly soaked to the knees and squelching along in sodden sneakers most of the way.

Eventually made it there and had a nice chat with Mel and got my haircut. Heading back through the shopping centre, I was accosted by this young Austrian guy at one of those central stalls who insisted on straightening my hair with this "amazing" ceramic straightener called a "Herrstyler", all the while extolling its virtues and slamming my GHD - how dare he!

Finally escaped and left via the nearest exit so I wouldn't have to walk past him again. This was something of a mistake as I came out in a random section of Midland and had to wander randomly until I found my way back to the main road. Saw some interesting shops and a life-size Blues Brothers statue, gave directions to a random guy who chased me down (why do ppl always feel that I'm approachable?) and trudged bak down Great Eastern Hwy, at which point the rain obligingly started up again.

On a happy note, got back to find a parcel had arrived - I now have the most awesome new skirt, and a steampunky outfit. :D

Other than that, have had a fairly quiet week - tried out bodypump on Monday w S and discovered I like it - have plans to join the local gym so I can take the various "body" classes, lay in bed al day Tues with a killer sore throat and flegmy yuckiness but am much better now, and hung out w C yesterday. The week's almost over :( but I still have another week of holidays to go, so yay! :)

Well, yeah, but it just seemed ridiculous to catch a train 3km!
